G-2 Purlin:

Mammut Building Systems has always been a pioneer in the metal building industry, developing and introducing new technologies and techniques and applying these to its pre-engineered buildings. The latest of these breakthroughs is Generation 2, which is reffered
as "G-2".

This revolutionary purlin design is the result of extensive research and testing of light gauge, cold-formed steel sections to improve their mechanical efficiency. The end result is a family of sections with structural properties previously considered to be impossible.

The evolutionary open-web C-section design gives a much higher strength to weight ratio than conventional purlins or solid-web C-sections, with the added advantage that the large web openings can accommodate most wiring, plumbing and even HVAC services without the need
for suspension devices.

Perhaps the most amazing feature of the "G-2" is its strength: it is actually stronger than an equivalent size solid C-section! This purlin, with its unique oval perforations of the web is both stronger and lighter than a conventional section of the same material thickness.

In tests, "G-2" patented design features have been proven to give it 17% more strength than alternative open-web systems and 9% more than the best-selling solid section.

The secret is in the corrugations of the extruded lip and the folded flanges of the oval openings, which combine to add stiffness and resistance to web buckling.

With conventional Z-section purlins, optimum bay spacing is around 8 metres. The Mammut "G-2" permits longer distances between portal frames. It can span to 14 metres or even more if required.

Standardization of 12m bay spacing has the benefit of using standard components from stock instead of producing unique components for every job, therefore it speeds up the engineering time and delivery to site.
